Karim Hammou, a tenured researcher in sociology and history at the French National Centre for Scientific Research, is an expert in hip-hop culture and cultural industries with a focus on Europe and North America. 🎓✨
He is the co-editor of the Global Hip-Hop Studies Journal and the author of two books:
📖 «Une histoire du rap en France» (A History of Rap Music in France)
📖 «Fear of a Female Planet,» a book about a French feminist punk rap band. 🎶👩🎤
During the presentation, he will share insights on how this US-born music genre has become such an influential force in France, and transformed into a distinctive part of the French music scene. 🇺🇸➡️🇫🇷✨ He’ll explore how it reflects the nation’s triumphs and struggles in the context of its former imperial space and contemporary global role. 🌍🔍
